From Soldier to Psychotherapist:
Steve Gardiner’s Journey of Healing and Helping Others Overcome Trauma
Meet Steve Gardiner, an empathetic psychotherapist whose personal journey through trauma has shaped his career in understanding the human mind and helping others reclaim control of their lives.
Steve’s story began with his service as a medic in the Rhodesian Army during the Zimbabwean conflict, an experience that left him grappling with severe PTSD. For years, he struggled with anger, nightmares, and anxiety despite numerous attempts at counselling, coaching, and meditation.
Turning Point
A turning point came when Steve attended an impromptu talk by Judith Richards about TRTP™ (The Richards Trauma Process) and its success in treating trauma. The blend of neuroscience and dynamic re-imagining techniques resonated deeply with the scientist in Steve. Inspired and excited, he approached Judith and expressed his desire to learn TRTP™. At that time, Judith wasn’t teaching TRTP™, but Steve’s determination and belief in the process led him to become her first student.
Amazing Transformation
During his initial TRTP™ training, Steve underwent the TRTP™ ™ process as a client. Before he started his TRTP™ sessions, a viewing of the war movie “Saving Private Ryan” triggered traumatic memories from his time as a medic, forcing him to leave the theatre after just 30 minutes. Days later, after completing the three-session TRTP™ process with Judith, Steve tested its effectiveness by watching the movie again. This time, he experienced no triggers, no anger, and no anxiety. Amazed by the transformation, he watched the film again, with the same results.
TRTP™ Brought Peace
That night, Steve slept without nightmares for the first time in years. The sounds of helicopters, car backfires, and ambulance sirens no longer caused him to tense up or feel anxious. TRTP™ had achieved what 30 years of other therapies could not—it resolved his high-level anger and PTSD, bringing him peace and a renewed sense of purpose.
Giving Back
Now a Senior Trainer, Steve actively shares his expertise in TRTP™, assisting Judith in conducting workshops and training sessions for new TRTP™ practitioners. His mission is to build a community of therapists skilled at supporting survivors on their path to healing and resolving trauma-related issues.
Steve’s dedication to TRTP™ comes from a place of genuine warmth and understanding. He brings professional expertise and a compassionate heart to every session, ensuring every client feels safe. Through TRTP™, Steve continues to guide individuals toward renewed self-belief and a bright, trauma-free future.
